Improved: The Audio Harmony Dialog has been rearranged to be more intuitive when using Band-in-a-Box Intelligent Mode.
It has been really hard keeping the cat in the bag (I was a beta tester for the last 2 weeks or so), but tonight PG Music finally released Band in a Box 2010 for the Macintosh. As was the case in the previous version, this version is Intel only. So, you people with G5s or other PowerPC chipped computers… are out of luck. Though the speed increases in this version (more on that in a sec) probably would have made Band in a Box 2010 tolerable for G5 Macintoshes.
Anything less than re-recording someone else's work, it kind of seems like staling to me... I mean, at what point is the creative expression YOU if the program creates the beat, makes a bass-line to go with it and so on?
Fixed: Tooltip hints were displaying too quickly on the toolbar. Now they are set to 3 seconds.
All that being said, the hardest thing of all is to write a MELODY over a sequence. I hear nothing but boring un-unique title 'themes' and tracks on TV all the time ( made up with pre-rendered loops and musical sequences ) they all sound good from a production sound quality perspective but utterly boring and predictable in a harmonic way but worst of all absent in melody and as such utterly unmemorable. The only thing that hasn't been ruined by technology is the magic of melody. Its a very hard thing to crack and without it music is nothing but rhythm.
Fixed: Chord entry during playback was very slow.
First off, the program is HUGE if you want to download it, you better have a high speed connection. A real FAST high speed connection. We are talking 20+ gigs of stuff to download if you purchased/upgraded the version with RealTracks (more on that in a minute). PG Music offers digital downloads in addition to physical media available on DVDs or an 80 gig hard drive (same price). As a previous owner of version 12 for the Mac, I opted for the “Everything PAK” and the 24 PAK upgrade that included some extra stuff. It was $184.
